"Fashion was my escape (from Sickle Cell), my hope....I realised that this is something I wanted to pursue for the rest of my life"

Barbara is a Couture Fashion Designer from London, UK and of Nigerian heritage. She suffers from Sickle Cell Anaemia and as a child whenever she had to go to the hospital, Fashion was always her escape it was her Hope. Barbara remembers asking my mum to bring her sketchbook to the hospital so she could draw and it would give her so much Joy. It helped a lot with her recovery and Barbara realised that this is something she wanted to pursue for the rest of her life. Barbara created DUMEBI to be a global and recognisable Fashion house and use the platform to help support & spread awareness for Sickle Cell Anaemia. When Barbara was about 10years old her mother owned a small clothing boutique in North London and would travel all around the world and buy goods and sell them, her mother also bought materials and had tailors working at the store making custom-made clothing for clients

It was there Barbara learnt about sewing and found an interest in creating. It wasn't until Barbara turned 16 that she could really pursue her love for Fashion, during her Alevels she took a 2 year Fashion & Clothing course at Winchmore school, then went on to do a Foundation Course at Southgate college. She got Accepted to the World Renowed Fashion school Parsons in NYC, before transferring to International Fashion Academy Paris to pursue her love for Haute Couture and graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Fashion Design & Technology. Barbara has worked for Various Prestigious Brands between London, Paris and NYC including Gareth Pugh, Roland Mouret and Cynthia Rowley.

Opening first Atelier in Paris

Barbara opened her first Atelier in Paris before officially launching DUMEBI in 2017 and opening an Atelier in North London. In February 2022 DUMEBI opened its first Bricks & Mortar store & atelier in the heart of Chelsea. As of 2024 DUMEBI has now gone back to its original headquarters in Paris where Barbara works from now with her small highly skilled team.
