ANAEMIA - London Fashion Week SS22

This collection was inspired by Sickle Cell Anaemia, an inherited blood disorder  that affects the red blood cells and causes pain crisis.This is a health condition that Fashion Designer Barbara was born with and inherited through both parents who both carried one of the Sickle Cell genes. The goal for this collection to highlight the Sickle Cell condition in a beautiful artistic form and hopefully build awareness 

“Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes new life is born”

The colours of the Phoenix are red and yellow with touches of coral which are the colours we strongly feel represents Anaemia. So we decided for this collection we could embody that same vision and feeling of a Phoenix to highlight Sickle Cell in a beautiful and inspiring way.

Barbara started with choosing a base lace fabric in a flesh tone coral colour to represent the inside of the human body. She then looked into fabric manipulations and really liked the irregular circular 3D Shibori technique, Barbara felt it represented the rigid journey that the red blood cells take through the blood stream. She then created organdie roses in different shades of red to represent the good red blood cells. For the Prototype Barbara created a silhouette similar to the shape of a Pheonix with a long tail
